Republican-Eagle: Southeast Tech honors, supports veterans

The blasts of a military cannon and gun salute captivated a crowd Tuesday morning outside Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical, but the real bang was indoors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and several momentous announcements.

The Veterans Day ceremony at the college's Red Wing campus included the opening of a new veteran's lounge and a state proclamation naming the school a formal Beyond the Yellow Ribbon company.

"It's a process to become a Yellow Ribbon organization, and we ask them to meet certain high requirements," said Annette Kuyper, director of military outreach for the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs. "I'm proud to say today Southeast Tech has met all of the requirements."
