What's in a name?
Leaders at Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical hope the answer to that is more students.
The college announced plans for a name change this week, after a decision to offer an associate of art's degree, which it says will lead to more course options and easier credit transfers for students after their two years at SE Tech.
The technical college, like many in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, has struggled with an enrollment decline over the last five years. But the college anticipates the new moniker coupled with the degree offerings will boost enrollment.
"With the change of mission comes a need to consider changing the name of the college," according to a news release from the college.
"Those colleges that have the word 'college' or are comprehensive can more easily transfer their credits for four-year institutions so that was a huge impetus for me to move in this direction," said SE Tech President Dorothy Duran.
