Wednesday March 1

Hiawatha Valley Audubon Society Presents: "Falcons of the Driftless" with Abbey Krumrie
Senior Friendship Center, 251 Main Street, Winona  7:15
This month we're lucky to have four presenters--raptor educator and caregiver Abbey Krumrie along with three live falcons! This will be a great "all ages" opportunity to learn about these amazing native birds. Children are welcome, and don't forget your camera! How fast can a falcon fly? What makes them different from an owl or an eagle? What does it take to become a falconer? Bring your questions and curiosity about raptors to this Hiawatha Valley Audubon Society program

The Pumphouse presents: Theatrical production of "Forever Plaid"

When four young singers are killed in a car accident, they posthumously take the stage for one final gig in this ludicrous 1950's flashback production, said to be one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent history.

La Crosse Community Theatre presents: Xanadu

Kira, a magical and beautiful Greek muse, descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time--the first ROLLER DISCO! But when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

International Owl Festival
International Owl Center 126 E. Cedar St., Houston, 10:00
The only full-weekend, all-owl event in North America -- celebrates the hatch day of Alice, a Great Horned Owl.  The festival includes family-friendly activities such as live-owl demonstrations, nest-box building, a photo contest, owl-themed shopping, face-painting and art projects for children.

After being fired from his job, Los Angeles slacker and punk rocker Otto (Emilio Estevez) lands a gig working for an eccentric repossession agent named Bud (Harry Dean Stanton). A Cult Classic.

Live Music at Acoustic Café: Dave Cofell

Dave Cofell performs a variety of styles on six and twelve string guitar, from old standards to folk and blues songs, instrumental banjo tunes, jazzy novelty songs, R&B to covers and sing-along songs for family entertainment.

Steeped in hard rock and blues traditions, Tragic Americans use hard chords and sweet melodies to push the Driftless Area's musical heritage to the next level.  John Montét, Developer at Minnesota State College Southeast, is a musician in the "Tragic Americans" band.

Sheldon Theater Presents: Oran Etkin - Reimagining Benny Goodman

This imaginative tribute to the King of Swing, Benny Goodman, taps into the melodicism of Louis Armstrong and the bandleader statesmanship of Goodman. Internationally acclaimed bandleader and clarinetist, Oran Etkin, employs the unique instrumentation of clarinet, piano, vibes and drums -- rarely explored other than on Goodman's 1930s recordings -- to push the music in new directions and to honor Goodman's spirit of daring innovation.

A "roots and blues oddity" is a very deserving description for the Minnesota-based acoustic roots and blues musician Jeff Ray. Hurricane Harold Tremblay's pulsing train style harmonica, joined with Jeff Ray's thumb thumping alternate-tuning east-meets-west fingerstyle resonator slide-guitar. The band is definitely an earful and a true musical oddity; but they are strangely fun, sometimes confusing, and always inspiring.

But will the other farm animals, including Fly's jealous husband Rex, accept a pig who doesn't conform to the farm's social hierarchy? Rated G

Cannon Valley Trail
The Cannon Valley Trail is a 19.7 mile long trail that runs through diverse and spectacular scenery on a former Chicago Great Western Railroad line connecting the cities of Cannon Falls, Welch and Red Wing in beautiful southeastern Minnesota.  A ski pass is required for cross country skiing.
