MSC Southeast planning on full return to campus for Fall 2021
COVID-19 case count for spring semester remains extremely low
Red Wing and Winona, MN (April 19, 2021) - Having safely delivered education on campus in Red Wing and Winona throughout the 2020-2021 academic year, plans are underway to fully open Minnesota State College Southeast in Fall Semester 2021.
Since June 2020, the college has maintained hands-on learning in lab-based courses on campus, with discussion-based classes being taught virtually and in hybrid formats.
"This year, our faculty and staff have gone the extra mile to keep our students safe. With safety protocols in place including masking, physical distancing, hand hygiene, sanitizing, and taking daily self-assessments, we have kept transmission on campus very low," said Chad Dull, Vice President of Academic Affairs.
As of April 19, a total of 14 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the MSC Southeast community since January 1, 2021: 0 in Red Wing, 7 in Winona, and 7 online/remote.
"The exciting news is that this fall students will be back in person as on-campus classes resume across all subject areas, and our staff will be back in person full time to provide student support," said Josiah Litant, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. "MSC Southeast will be ready to meet the needs and expectations of students by offering face-to-face classes as well a full complement of campus activities and support services."
Classes that were previously delivered via distance learning technologies will continue to be online. "Southeast has a strong catalog of great online classes, and we're committed to making learning accessible to our students in a variety of ways," Josiah Litant stated.
The safety of students and employees remains the college's top priority. The college will continue to follow CDC and Minnesota Department of Health guidelines and will be prepared to adapt its plans if the situation changes.
"With more of us getting vaccinated every day, the end of the pandemic is in sight and we're excited for brighter days ahead," said Josiah Litant. "Give us a call, come visit campus, and let us know how we can support you in your educational journey. We can't wait to see you here this fall.
