College Closure and Class Cancellations

In accordance with Minnesota State Policy 4.4, the authority to close Minnesota State College Southeast campus(es) or cancel classes or other activities resides with the President or President's designee.

Definitions

Closing the College: All operations are shut down/closed except those deemed essential to the protection of life and property. The result is the cancellation of classes and student, faculty and staff activities and meetings. All general offices are closed. This policy includes classes/activities offered by other entities using college facilities, such as the CareerForce center.

Delayed Opening: All operations are kept closed for a designated period except those deemed essential to the protection of life and property.

Cancellation of Classes or Activities: Specific classes and/or activities are cancelled in lieu of officially closing the entire college.

Notification of Delays or Closures

In the case of a delay or closure, Southeast will send information to students and the public as early as possible through several channels.

  • Text and email alerts via Blackboard Connect, the emergency notification system.
  • An alert banner across the top of every page in the college website (southeastmn.edu)
  • Southeast social media accounts, including Facebook and Twitter
  • Regional radio and TV stations in Red Wing, Winona, La Crosse, Rochester, and the Twin Cities

It is possible for one campus to be closed while the other remains open; for example, due to a power failure at one location that does not affect the other, or in case of a weather event that does not impact both locations.

Class cancellations

Individual instructors may cancel their classes on a given day. Check the home page of the website under "Class Cancellations" to see if any courses are cancelled.
