Voigt Music Center is growing and seeking to hire full-time Band Instrument Repair Technicians. Candidates with experience in both woodwind and brasswind instruments are preferred, but not required. Founded in 1939, Voigt Music Center is a family-owned and operated business. Based in beautiful and affordable Janesville, WI, centrally located 30 miles between Madison, WI, and Rockford, IL, with easy access to Milwaukee and Chicago along the I-90/39 and I-43 corridors. We specialize in school music and offer weekly service to over 20 school districts across the state line area. At Voigt Music Center, our focus is on customer and employee care. Our store sells, rents, and services band and orchestral strings, as well as fretted instruments, and is the local authorized dealer for Yamaha, Conn-Selmer, and KHS. We have a fully equipped, modern repair shop that services individuals, schools, and other institutions. You would be joining a team of full-time repair technicians, led by our shop manager, who has 12 years of experience in our shop and almost 20 years of experience in the industry. Work Schedule:

A day in the life of a Class A CDL Driver:

  • Operate a Class A commercial vehicle to safely deliver products to a designated customer route.
  • Unload and check in products and ensure accurate delivery quantities with store personnel.
  • Merchandise product at designated stops to ensure shelves are well-stocked and displays meet GPC standards.
  • Serve as the face of GPC, fostering strong relationships with store teams and maintaining a positive brand image.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing any questions or concerns on-site professionally.
  • Maintain compliance with all DOT, company, and safety policies and regulations.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain accurate delivery logs.

What does it take to succeed as a Class A CDL driver?

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Clean driving record with a strong safety history
  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle up to 50 lbs regularly throughout the shift
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to work independently
  • Prior experience with product delivery, merchandising, or route sales is a plus but not required
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a commitment to excellent customer service

  • Represent GPC by building strong relationships with store staff and customers
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.

  • Actively pursuing or possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • Have reliable transportation.

Buckeye Brass & Winds is Central Ohio's musical instrument specialty shop. Since 2007 we have been dedicated to serving a vast community of musicians, educators, and students as well as The Ohio State University Marching Band, a 225pc all brass ensemble. We pride ourselves in offering a wide range of repair and specialty services, as well as, sales, and rentals. We are currently seeking motivated, ambitious, skilled and passionate Band Instrument Repair Technicians to join our team. Growth of our company continues and we have enjoyed a significant increase in our repair business since 2021, and our team needs to grow with it.

We have stores in Plain City, Ohio and Newark, Ohio. These positions are in our Plain City location which is currently set-up with 3 full time technicians and 2 part time seasonal helpers. 

Job Description:  Our Band Instrument Repair Technicians are responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of woodwind and brass instruments both from our stock as well as those owned by the schools and customers we serve. 

The ideal candidates will have experience working with both student and professional-level instruments and be committed to providing excellent workmanship and customer service. Additionally, less experienced technicians are welcome to apply and grow on our team. 

We believe that working on a supported team of professionals is the perfect way to grow personally and professionally, and will not only benefit the technician but also the music community as a whole.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair issues with woodwind and brass instruments
  • Perform general maintenance, cleaning, and adjustments to ensure instruments
  • are in optimal working condition
  • Be comfortable working on both brass and woodwind instruments
  • Provide estimates for repair costs and timelines
  • Accurately maintain records within the company's computer system
  • Maintain a clean and organized workshop area
  • Communicate effectively with customers, ensuring they understand the repair process
  • Test instruments to ensure they are fully functional after repairs
  • Maintain inventory of repair parts and tools
  • Collaborate with store staff and leadership to support rental and sales operations
  • Be willing to work weekends and occasional outside events
     

Qualifications:

  • Experience in the field of band instrument repair (formal training or apprenticeship preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of woodwind, and brass instruments
  • Excellent mechanical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

We are searching for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable brass instrument repair apprentice to join our team. The technician's primary responsibilities include repairing band instrument repair and checking repair quality. You should be well-organized, flexible, a problem solver, and willing to assist wherever needed. This position is designed to transition a recent graduate of an instrument repair school into a commercial instrument repair workplace.
