This 100% online education program from Minnesota State College Southeast offers a supportive distance learning environment for new and experienced early childhood educators. Coursework can be completed for the early childhood education associate degree online with local field experience in a licensed early childhood setting, working with children between the ages of 0-8. Students are directly evaluated during their field experiences throughout the program.

The development of a professional portfolio is a component of Southeast's Early Childhood Education program for students to demonstrate competence, based on standards from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The completed portfolio will be presented at the completion of the Southeast associate degree.

Associate of Science Degree General Requirements for Early Childhood Education Transfer Pathway

  1. A minimum of 60 semester credits.
  2. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 (students with a GPA 2.0-2.4 may receive conditional admission)
  3. A minimum cumulative MnTC GPA of 2.0.
  4. A minimum of 20 semester credits applied toward the degree must be taken at Minnesota State College Southeast.
  5. Students must earn a grade of 'C' or better for ECED courses to transfer.
  6. Some university education programs require 'B' or better in English and math coursework.
  7. Completion of the specific degree requirements below: 

Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) Requirements - A minimum of 30 credits to complete the MnTC required 6 goal areas for the AS degree. A MnTC course may satisfy more than one goal area; however, the credits only count once.

After obtaining an A.S. degree at MSC Southeast, Rachel proceeded to SMSU to obtain a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. In addition to teaching at MSC Southeast since 2010, her career experiences include family childcare, nanny, director of religious education, childcare trainer, preschool teacher, foster parent, and substitute.
