Mental Health Resources

Minnesota State College Southeast partners with Winona State University, Hiawatha Valley Mental Health in Red Wing, and Mantra Health to offer various counseling services at no charge to students. All students, including those in online programs, are encouraged to use these resources to support their mental health. Scroll down for a list of crisis/emergency resources.

WSU Counseling Services

As a student you have access to Winona State University's Counseling Services at any time. To schedule, call 507-457-5330 or email counselingservices@winona.edu and indicate that you are a Southeast student. Appointments are available on campus at WSU in the Integrated Wellness Complex Room 222 (download map) or online via Zoom.

Emergency Help: If you're in a mental health crisis, a WSU counselor is available for emergency appointments Monday-Friday from 12-3:30pm. Call or come directly to Counseling Services and inform the front desk you need to see a counselor as soon as possible. They will do their best to see you right away. If you need an immediate response outside of these hours, contact one of the crisis/emergency resources below.

Serena Bohn - WSU Counselor: Serena Bohn is a licensed professional counselor with her master's degree in clinical mental health from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Serena's goal is to foster hope, resiliency, independence, and assist in growing your self-awareness. She often explores the past as a tool to help you shape the present, works with you on building self-compassion, and uses awareness of your thoughts to help you address your behaviors to create more informed choices now and in your future.

Serena is on the Winona campus every Tuesday during the academic semester from 8 am to 3 pm. Starting in Fall Semester, you can make an appointment to meet with Serena on campus or online during her office hours.

Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center, Red Wing

Students in the Red Wing area who would like to schedule an in-person counseling appointment (no cost to the student) can reach out to the Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center in Red Wing. To schedule, call 651-327-2270 and indicate that you are a Minnesota State College Southeast student.

Appointments are available Monday-Thursday from 7:30am-5pm and Fridays from 8am-12pm at their clinic located at 2835 S. Service Dr., Suite 103, Red Wing. 

Mantra Health

Southeast partners with the digital mental health provider Mantra Health to bring you diverse, high-quality mental health support via the Care Hub. This all-in-one platform gives you access to a variety of free virtual services. Students will receive up to 12 therapy sessions through Mantra per academic year.

Self-Care: These short, self-guided wellness courses can be accessed anytime, anywhere. Learn to reduce your stress, regulate your emotions, build healthier relationships and get through difficult situations. 

Emotional Wellness Coaching: This short-term, goal-oriented intervention is best for students wanting self-management strategies. You'll get matched with a dedicated and experienced coach who will teach you key skills and work with you through 8-12 weeks of sessions.

Therapy: Enjoy one-on-one sessions with a dedicated, highly trained, culturally-informed provider who understands your unique experience and can help you assess and manage your mental health concerns. 

ConnectNow: In-the-moment support and problem solving with a mental health professional. This service is available between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. CST via video for any students who are in distress or experiencing immediate mental health challenges.

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 or reach out via chat. The Lifeline network is available 24/7 across the United States. Your call will be routed to the nearest crisis center to you.
  • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a volunteer confidential crisis counselor 24/7.
  • The Steve Fund: Dedicated to support the mental and emotional well-being of young people of color. Text STEVE to 741741 to access the Crisis Text Line.
  • The Trevor Project: 24/7 suicide prevention and crisis intervention information and support to LGBTQ+ young people. Call 1-866-488-7386, text START to 678678, or reach out via chat.
  • Veterans Crisis Line: 24/7 confidential crisis support for Veterans and their loved ones. No enrollment in VA benefits or health care to connect. Dial 988 then Press 1, text HELLO to 838255, or reach out via chat.
  • National Eating Disorders Association: Take an online screening tool or search for help for you or a loved one who is affected by an eating disorder. Call ANAD Helpline at 1-888-375-7767 or the National Alliance for Eating Disorders Helpline at 1-866-662-1235.

Referring Students for Help

If you are concerned about the well-being of a student, you are encouraged to refer them to the Southeast Care Team. Make a referral using our online form. A Care Team member will reach to the student to offer assistance.
